News for the Week

Updated: Dec 1, 2023

October 19, 2023

Hello St. George Families,

I am so thankful for the energy of the parent community in stepping up to volunteer and help where needed. It is you who make this a loving village for all the children!

Help in the Preschool. We are also looking for substitutes who have the required credentials to substitute in preschool from time to time. Candidates must comply with Department of Youth and Family Services (DCYF) Merit Background checks, CPR, First Aid, and have some initial Child Care Basics class training. If you are interested, contact the main office.

Parent, Teacher Student MANDATORY Conferences, K-8, are October 25, 26, and 27.

Go to https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10C0D4DA5A922ABFDC70-2023 and sign up for your conferences. Sign-ups close on Monday. Students in Grades 2-8 are expected to attend with their parents. Look for your teacher’s name on the left, starting with Kinder, and choose an available time in her section. Teachers will assign conferences to families who have not yet responded and notify you of the date and time.

St. George School Annual Halloween Carnival is Friday, October 27, 6 – 9 p.m. All friends and family are invited. Only 95 kids have registered for tickets!

Get your pre-sale discounted tickets/wristbands here: https://saintgeorgeseattle.ejoinme.org/2023Halloween

Each classroom will run a spooktacular booth/game at the carnival. We are still looking for volunteers, especially anyone interested in Trunk or Treating and food pickup.

Sign up here to help at your classroom booth and general positions that need support: https://tinyurl.com/2023volunteerhalloween

Costumes: For security reasons, only Grades Preschool - 4th grade students may wear full costume masks. This helps limit the shenanigans and lets us ensure a safe campus. Adults and grades 5-8 can come up with something else creative.

Sat. Oct. 28th Middle School Dance from 6:30-8:30 PM. The 8th-grade parents are hosting a middle school dance for 7th and 8th-grade students from our sister schools: St Joseph, Holy Rosary, Holy Family Bilingual, Our Lady of Guadalupe, St. Bernadette, St. Francis, St. Theresa, and Seattle Nativity. St. George’s own 6th graders are welcome to attend. If you would like to volunteer to help and earn service hours, contact Susie Lee at sugieya@msn.com. ALL 8th-grade parents are required to help as this is a camp fundraiser.

Sunday, October 29th, the Third Grade students and our choir host the 10:30 Mass at St. George. Please join us for Mass, followed by coffee and donuts.

All Saints Day Wed. Nov. 1, the Third graders will host the ALL school Mass that day (instead of Friday) and wear their saints costumes again.

CYO Basketball registration ends tonight, Thursday, October 19th. If your child is interested in playing, please visit www.saintgeorgeseatrle.org/CYO or email athletics@saintgeorgeseattle.org.

Adult Open Gym Volleyball will be happening Friday nights from 7 pm - 9 pm in our gym, starting tomorrow - Friday, October 20th. It is open to age 18+ parents, alum, and parishioners at all skill levels. A $5 donation is asked per person. If interested, please contact Ms. Nia (nia.camilon@gmail.com) or Mr. Andrew (agarcia@saintgeorgeseattle.org) or see the attached flyer.

The 2024-25 K-12th grade Tuition Assistance Application for the Fulcrum Foundation is open! Though the deadline says Dec. 31st, if you need any assistance from our office with the application, make an appointment with us BEFORE Dec. 13th. We cannot assist over Christmas vacation. All applicants must also provide supporting documentation, like tax forms and W-2s. Applications can only be verified and processed once the necessary documentation is received by FACTS.

Save the Date: Tues: Nov. 21 Grandparents/Special Adult Luncheon. Students are encouraged to invite their grandparents or special adults (if they don’t have grandparents in town) to have lunch with them, visit their classrooms, and play on the playground. This is an advanced RSVP event. Please see the attached flyer for more information.

This event is for the special adults in a child’s life, not parents. We have a Parents Luncheon in January for all our families to attend during Catholic Schools Week on Jan.31, 2024.

Attached is the Hot Lunch Menu for November. Those are due soon. Note the special meal being served for the Grandparents Luncheon. You are welcome to pre-purchase this meal for them through Catering by Edwin.

Also attached is our November Calendar with key events listed.

Did you see the hit-and-run? Yesterday between 1:00 and 4:45 PM, Ms. Corbin car was hit. She was parked on Dawson Street, about 4 houses up on the south side of the street. Someone backed into her maroon Rav4 and caused considerable damage to her passenger door. No note was left. If you saw anything, please reach out to her at ccorbin@saintgeorgeseattle.org. You can imagine how upsetting this is!

Sincerely,

Monica Wingard
