Principal's Newsletter - 8/29/24

Updated: 2 days ago

Hello St. George Families,

We have two fabulous days under our belts! WOOT WOOT! The kids are doing a fantastic job of settling in and working as teams.

Thank you parents for all your help in reading/following our traffic and parking rules. REMEMBER: YELLOW CURBS anywhere mean no parking from 7:00AM-8:05 PM.  That keeps our drive by/drop off traffic flowing. We ask that parents do not get out of their cars as there is too much traffic and it is not safe. If you have to help your child get out of the car seats, I ask that you park in the neighborhood and walk the block with them until they can walk alone. WALKING is heart healthy and won’t slow other people down waiting to drop off. We all have to work together since we have over 200 families trying to get to school and work on time.

Reviewing morning care fees: K-8 Morning Care is from 7:00-7:40 AM. There is a $2.00/child/day fee charged for care at that time. Drop off from 7:41AM -7:55 AM is free! We welcome all the kids on the playground at 7:40-7:50 to visit friends and run around a bit before school starts. That will help get their brains/bodies ready for learning!

Tomorrow we have our first all school Mass from 8:30 -9:15. All families are welcome to join.

K-8 Sept. lunch orders and payment due tomorrow. Hard copies went home with your kids today.

Tomorrow, August 30th, is a half day for grades K-8.  Students are to wear uniforms.

Friday, Sept 6th from 6:00-7:30 PRESCHOOL - FIRST GRADE FAMILIES POTLUCK. We invite all our younger kids to bring their families for a casual night of socializing and playtime for the kids.  RAIN OR SHINE. We can use the gym for playing! Everybody bring your own beverage/water bottles and a dish for 12 to share. See the first letter of your last name to know what to bring! Parents Club will have plates and cutlery.

A-I bring a side dish,            J-S a main dish          T-Z salads, fruits/desserts

Friday Sept. 6th is first Friday Spirit Day with a NOON dismissal for K-8 students. Extended Care is available.  Students are welcome to blue or black jeans, navy uniform shorts and any St. George t-shirt or sweatshirt.

Wed. Sept 11 at 6:30 PM is the Mandatory K-8 Curriculum Night. We meet in the cafeteria for general information and then divide by grade level for more specific curriculum information from the homeroom teachers. Grades 6-8 will have one meeting in the school hall directly following the general information session. Childcare is available on the playground for parents who have no other options.

All volunteers must complete the archdiocese Safe Environment Protocol BEFORE they can help in any way at school. I am attaching a flyer that explains the process. There will be a Safe Environment, Protecting God’s Children training at St. George school hall on Saturday, Sept. 14 from 9:00-12:00 PM. You can register on the Virtus website link as stated on the attached flyer. Jump on this soon as there are field trips coming in October!

Volunteers Needed Monday-Thursday 7:30-8:00 AM I am looking for volunteers who are willing to take one morning a week and be the Gym Gate Greeter at morning drop off from 7:30-8:00 AM. This helps us ensure the safety of our children as they come to school. It is super easy and a great way to start any morning: smiles from cheerful kids! Volunteers must be current with Safe Environment Protocols. Email our main office if you would like to help!

ATHELETIC DIRECTOR Position open. Mr. Andrew our AD is stepping down and we are looking for a new person for this role. It is a stipend position per trimester that requires coordinating with CYO Athletics and St. George parents to sign up students/coaches through the TEAMSIDELINE system. The AD would also work with coaches to set up practice schedules and check out equipment and uniforms. If you are a sports enthusiast and can balance lots of different entities at once, shoot me at email at mwingard@saintgeorgeseattle.org.

St. George uniform sweatshirt and school dragon t-shirt sale end Sept. 18. The link to order is on the attached flyer. This is the only sweatshirt considered UNIFORM and can be worn to class every day.  T-shirts are for First Friday spirit days and often field trips. Grades 6-8 have a PE uniform policy: loose basketball style shorts, St. George t-shirts and sneakers.

Our Jogathon and all school BBQ is scheduled for Sunday, Sept 29th. This is one of two events that supports parents’ $500 fundraising commitments. Keep posted next week for the links to ONECAUSE to set up your family’s online fundraising page to share with family and friends. We also will send a link to preorder for our BBQ that day!

I wish everyone a fabulous Labor Day weekend. I have a float down the Yakima River planned.

In peace,

Monica Wingard
