Living Stations of the Cross Script
Introduction
We welcome you to St. George Parish this evening. Our devotional of Stations of the Cross is hosted by the 5th grade. This year, instead of walking along the Stations of the Cross icons on the walls, the 5th graders will present the stations in FREEZE FRAME mode at the altar. Each station will be acted out to help you imagine what Jesus went through.

At each station, there are two responses for your participation. Refer to your sheet at each station that says ALL.

After the leader says: We adore you O Lord and Bless you, the entire congregation will GENUFLECT and respond with. “Because by your Holy Cross you have redeemed the world.” and then resume standing.
At the end of each station we will sing, Jesus remember me, when you come into your kingdom four times while transitioning into the new station.
Please stand and we will begin.

Jesus’ walk to Calvary is like the journeys in our own lives. We cannot rise with Christ unless we first die with Him. It is by carrying our own crosses that we come to know God’s mercy and love. As we enter into this journey with our Lord, let us feel as He felt, hurt as He hurt, and love as He loved.
The 1st Station - Jesus is unjustly condemned to death
Leader: We adore you O Lord and Bless you
ALL: Because by your Holy Cross you have saved the world.
Jesus was unfairly accused and put on trial for loving and caring about others. Pilate convicted Jesus to appease the crowd. Sometimes we meet people and judge them because of the way they look or act. Sometimes we don’t do what we know is right and follow the crowd instead.
ALL: Dear Jesus, help me to be fair and help me not to judge others. Help me to stand up for what I believe in and do the right thing so I can be loving and caring like you.

Sing (4x) Jesus, remember me, when you come into your kingdom.
The 2nd Station - Jesus takes up His cross
Leader: We adore you O Lord and Bless you
ALL: Because by your Holy Cross you have saved the world.
Even though He is not guilty of any crime, Jesus lifts the heavy cross and carries it to show how much He loves us. We should carry the problems that come in our own lives and think about how much Jesus suffered for us.
ALL: Dear Jesus, when I have problems, I know that you are always with me to help me carry my own cross, because You love me.

Sing (4x) Jesus, remember me, when you come into your kingdom.
The 3rd Station - Jesus falls the first time
Leader: We adore you O Lord and Bless you
ALL: Because by your Holy Cross you have saved the world.
The cross is heavy, but the soldiers keep pushing Jesus along. He stumbles and falls. When we say mean things that hurt others, don’t listen to our parents, or tell lies to get out of trouble, we are falling.
ALL: Dear Jesus, I sometimes make mistakes. Help me to remember that when I hurt others or do not help when I can, I am hurting myself and hurting you.

Sing (4x) Jesus, remember me, when you come into your kingdom.
The 4th Station - Jesus and His Mother meet
Leader: We adore you O Lord and Bless you
ALL: Because by your Holy Cross you have saved the world.
Along the road to Calvary, Mary sees her Son, and their eyes meet. She must have felt so much pain, seeing Him suffer and knowing she couldn’t do anything to help Him. Like any Mother, she shares her child’s sorrow and pain as if it were her own.
ALL: Dear Jesus, help me to love your Mother, Mary, whom You loved so much. Teach me to always show how much I love my parents, grandparents, guardians, and all those who care about me.

Sing (4x) Jesus, remember me, when you come into your kingdom.
The 5th Station - Simon helps Jesus carry the cross
Leader: We adore you O Lord and Bless you
ALL: Because by your Holy Cross you have saved the world.
Simon was just an ordinary person chosen from the crowd to help Jesus carry His cross. Simon didn’t want to get involved, but by the time they reached the top of the hill, he was glad that he helped Jesus. Sometimes we complain or argue about having to help or do things we don’t want to.
ALL: Dear Jesus, help me to always be ready and willing to help others. Let me learn to be like Simon and help others carry their crosses.

Sing (4x) Jesus, remember me, when you come into your kingdom.

The 6th Station - Veronica wipes the face of Jesus
Leader: We adore you O Lord and Bless you
ALL: Because by your Holy Cross you have saved the world.
Jesus was hot and sweaty, and blood and sweat were running into his eyes, making it hard to see. A woman in the crowd named Veronica made her way to Jesus to wipe his face. He left a gift to her – a picture of His face on her veil.
ALL: Dear Jesus, help me be like Veronica and offer willingly to help others, without even being asked. Teach me to be brave and stand up for what is right. Help me to remember that anything I do for others, I do for You.

Sing (4x) Jesus, remember me, when you come into your kingdom.
The 7th Station - Jesus falls the second time Reader ______
Leader: We adore you O Lord and Bless you
ALL: Because by your Holy Cross you have saved the world.
Jesus fell again. The cross seemed heavier with each step, and the pain grew stronger and stronger. No one could take away His suffering. He was all alone on His journey. There are times that we, like Jesus, feel all alone.
ALL: Dear Jesus, give me Your strength to handle the pain from peer pressure that sometimes comes from trying to do the right thing. Help me to remember that I am never alone, for You are with me.

Sing (4x) Jesus, remember me, when you come into your kingdom.
The 8th Station - Jesus consoles the women and children Reader _____
Leader: We adore you O Lord and Bless you
ALL: Because by your Holy Cross you have saved the world.
Despite His own suffering, Jesus took the time to comfort the women and children in the crowd. He stopped and said to them, “Don’t cry for me, but for yourselves and your children.” Sometimes we are so wrapped up in our own problems that we forget that others have problems of their own.
ALL: Dear Jesus, You love me no matter what I do. May your suffering make me strong and help me to share Your love with everyone I meet.

Sing (4x) Jesus, remember me, when you come into your kingdom.

The 9th Station - Jesus falls the third time Reader _____
Leader: We adore you O Lord and Bless you
ALL: Because by your Holy Cross you have saved the world.
Jesus falls again under the weight of His cross, and once again, He gets up to continue His journey. Jesus set an example for all of us by trying again and again. When we fail, we must keep trying just as Jesus did.
ALL: Dear Jesus, when I am really down, help me remember that You got up again and again. Rather than finding blame, help me to get up and try again.

Sing (4x) Jesus, remember me, when you come into your kingdom.
The 10th Station - Jesus is stripped of His garments
Leader: We adore you O Lord and Bless you
ALL: Because by your Holy Cross you have saved the world.
Jesus stood at the top of the hill, and was stripped of His clothes. He taught us that we should value people more than things. Material things that are important to us today are often thrown away tomorrow.
ALL: Dear Jesus, everything I have is a gift from You. Everything I do, I try to do in Your Name. Please help me remember that without You in my life, I have nothing.

Sing (4x) Jesus, remember me, when you come into your kingdom.
The 11th Station - Jesus is nailed to the cross
Leader: We adore you O Lord and Bless you
ALL: Because by your Holy Cross you have saved the world.
The soldiers roughly place Jesus down on the cross, and nails are driven into His hands and feet. Sometimes we must give up what we have, or do things we don’t want to do.
ALL: Dear Jesus, help me forgive people who hurt me, just as You forgave those who nailed You to the cross.
Sing (4x) Jesus, remember me, when you come into your kingdom.
The 12th Station - Jesus dies on the Cross Reader _____
Leader: We adore you O Lord and Bless you
ALL: Because by your Holy Cross you have saved the world.
PLEASE KNEEL for two minutes of silence.
Jesus knows that everything has been completed. He yells out, “It is finished”, then bows His head and gives up His Spirit. He was not a criminal … He had done no wrong. So often, that seems the way. Thousands of people are killed each day through war, acts of violence, and abortion. Jesus said, “As long as you did it to one of these, My people, you did it to Me.”
ALL: Dear Jesus, You died so that I can live. Help me to be a giver of life. Thank You, Jesus, thank You.
Sing (4x) Jesus, remember me, when you come into your kingdom.
The 13th Station - Jesus is taken down from the cross
Leader: We adore you O Lord and Bless you
ALL: Because by your Holy Cross you have saved the world.
His suffering is over, and the body of Jesus lies peacefully in the arms of His mother. Mary’s heart nearly breaks with sorrow. Jesus has shown us the way to love and has given us the gift of peace.
ALL: Dear Jesus, in looking at Your sacrifice, we find hope. Help me to accept my crosses. Help me keep my arms open in love and never let them close. This is my way of sharing Your love and peace with everyone I meet.
Sing (4x) Jesus, remember me, when you come into your kingdom.
The 14th Station - Jesus is placed in the tomb
Leader: We adore you O Lord and Bless you
ALL: Because by your Holy Cross you have saved the world.
Jesus’ Body is placed in the tomb where it remains for three days. The people gathered around mourn His death and remember His life.
When Jesus came back to life, all people got a new beginning. His Resurrection shows His never-ending love for us. Jesus gives us His Holy Spirit.
ALL: Dear Jesus, help me to remember how You lived so that I might be like You and make this world a better place.
Sing (4x) Jesus, remember me, when you come into your kingdom.

Jesus died, but He is always with us. He rose from the dead, bright and glorious.
We believe in the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit, even though we cannot see Them. We know that They are always with us to fill us with Their love. We believe!
Lord Jesus Christ,
your passion and death is the sacrifice that unites earth and heaven
and reconciles all people to you.
May we who have faithfully reflected on these mysteries
follow in your steps and so come to share your glory in heaven
where you live and reign with the Father and the Holy Spirit
one God, for ever and ever. Amen
