News for the Week: Fr. Scot's Birthday, Annual Day of Service, Multicultural Fair

April 18, 2024

Dear St. George Families,

It is glorious to have the sunshine!  The students have been enjoying lunch outside picnic style.

Fr. Scott’s birthday is Saturday, April 20th.  The school is creating a BASKET OF LOVE to give him on April 21st at the 10:30 Mass at St. George. He will celebrating First Communion that day with our parish families. I invite you parents to bring birthday cards, notes, gift cards to dinners, Starbucks, etc. to mass. We want to let him know how important he is to our community and that we care about him.

Earth Day is Monday, April 22, and Tuesday, the 23rd is the Feast of St. George. We will have a Faith Family event that focuses on Care for God’s creation on Tuesday. We are having a free dress where everyone dresses is blue for St. George and blue for clean water and clean air!

Everyone should have received their FUNDRAISING and SERVICE HOURS UPDATE. Some of you have not sent in your SERVICE HOURS LOG. Get those in ASAP before we bill you. There are still volunteer hours available at our Multicultural Fair….see attachment.

Our annual Day of Service is happening next Saturday, April 27th and we have 243 volunteers participating so far!   We are still taking registrations for projects that haven’t filled.  You can sign up at: //bit.ly/multi-parishdayofservice  There is a group of parents volunteers at the PREPARES ministry that day. They are collecting diapers, wipes, new and GENTLY used baby and children’s clothing. We will have a bin in our main office if anyone wants to donate to that. See the attached flyer for more details. Drop off before April 26th.

Also, we are looking for 2-3 people who can help prepare materials for the Day of the Service.  The job is cutting fleece and cutting paracord string and can be done in your home for volunteer hours.  We need it ready by next Friday, April 26 and we can get you supplies tomorrow if anyone would like to work on it over the weekend.  Please contact Jennifer Ibach if you are interested: jibach@stedwardparish.net

Sunday, April 28 is our Parish Multicultural Fair and celebration of the Feast of St. George following our 10:30 Mass. See the attached flyer to volunteer to cook a tasty cultural dish. So far we have a few food/drinks dishes from Ethiopia, The Philippines, Vietnam, Ukraine, Mexico Laos/Kmu, Germany, and Thailand. We have room for at least 40 more ethnic dishes, soups, deserts and beverages. Our entertainment includes The Tongan Youth Choir from St. Edward, Groupe Folkloric Citali (Mexico), Hula, Seattle University’s Hidaka Taiko Japanese Drumming Club and St. George Filipino dance Troup. This is your last chance to earn service hours for the 2023-2024 school year so sign up ASAP!

Middle School Youth Group Night at Menchie’s

All 6th-8th graders are invited to join us for a night of frozen yogurt and fun on Friday, May 17 at 6:30pm.  We’ll head over to Menchie’s in West Seattle and take our treats to Hiawatha Park for some games (weather permitting).  Permission slip is attached and is due by Friday, May 10

Have a wonderful weekend and hope to see you at Mass on Sunday.

Cheers,
