Principals Weekly Newsletter; State-of-the-School Address, Summer School
January 26, 2023
Did you know there are 5,938 Catholic elementary and high schools and 221 Catholic colleges and universities in our country alone? Maybe you attended one yourself! We are blessed in our parish cluster to have a strong Catholic elementary school available to all our parishioners. In addition, many of us have attended Catholic high schools and universities, too.
You, as current families at St. George or even as an alumna yourself of any Catholic school, understand the added value a Catholic education provides. Next week, we celebrate the impact Catholic education has on our students, our families, our parishes and the wider community. Our schools empower students to be leaders in their faith. Our students are known for their academic prowess and just as importantly, they are famous for their service-mindedness in the wider community.
THANK YOU to all the families who have volunteered to help at any of the six Catholic Schools’ Week Parish Masses at St. Peter, St. George, St. Edward and St. Paul, the weekends of 1/28 & 1/29 and 2/4 & 2/5.
This weekend, I will be at the Saturday 5:00 Vietnamese Mass at St. George, the 8:30 Sunday Mass at St. Peter and the 10:30 Sunday Mass at St. George. Families will be hosting coffee and donuts after the Sunday Masses. We hope that all of our school families who are parishioners at each of those churches will join us at Mass. We encourage students to dress in their full school uniforms and parents in their St. George Swag to celebrate our school. We invite older siblings in our Catholic High Schools or Catholic Universities to wear theirs, too! Catholic education is alive and well in Western Washington!
Save the Date for Wed. February 1 from 11:30-1:00 as we bring back our annual FAMILY LUNCHEON. We invite all parents to come have lunch with their kids! Parents can order their lunches through the February lunch menu with their kids: Chicken adobo is lunch of the day. Otherwise, parents can bring in a special lunch for them and their kids. We will all eat as one big family!
Our annual State of the School Address will be in the school hall on Thursday, February 9th at 6:30 PM.
Parent attendance is mandatory and you will earn a service hour. Families who do not attend, must set up an appointment with me to go over the information BEFORE registration will be accepted.
The School Commission and I will discuss St. George Parish School’s finances, academics and curriculum, and the connection between churches and school, our maintenance goals for the summer and our tuition contracts for the 2023-24 school year. This year registration will be ON LINE through an Archdiocesan mandated program called School Admin. Registration fees can be paid via credit card, check or cash. The deadline to register is March 1, 2023. CHILDCARE for the State of the School Address for all students is available in the gym for those families who have no other alternatives.
St. George Summer School 2023 is back by popular demand. We will be hosting a 5 week academic summer school for students, Preschool – 5th Grade. Because we have a limited number of staff members, we are opening registration to our own St. George kiddoes before we open it up to the other Catholic schools in the area on March 1st. Students will continue to practice this year’s grade level skills in math, reading and ELA. We also have a full day option for those in need of child care.
We will have ONE ROOM of 20 mixed Preschool-PreK students who are currently in our program. If you are interested in Summer School see the attached flyers and get your registration form in by Feb. 28. Because of limited space, registration is on a first come, first serve basis.
Info from the parish:
Day of Service: Registration is opening!
All are invited to our annual Day of Service on Saturday, March 25, 2023. Join with hundreds of volunteers from Our Lady of Guadalupe and all four cluster parishes. We will be serving in groups at a variety of non-profits throughout our region and offering some at-home projects as well. Signups open this weekend! See the project options and register online at https://bit.ly/2023DayofService or contact Jennifer at jibach@stedwardparish.net If you would like to volunteer to help organize the day (counts toward school volunteer hours), our next planning meeting is Monday, February 27 at 7pm at St. George.
Sincerely
