Happy Valentine’s Day to our St. George Community.
Last Saturday, our 8th grade boys played in the CYO championship game. They fought hard to the last second, and the score showed they lost the game, but I know, THEY WON. I would say over 150 fans came to watch them play: classmates, extended family members, alumni and many St. George families in other grades who didn’t have 8th graders came out to cheer them on. The bleaches were FULL OF LOVE that was evident in the cheering, encouraging words, and the chanting of WE ARE ST. GEORGE. Frankly, it brought tears to my eyes to see our community rally around the boys. So many people told the boys how proud of them they were for how hard they played even when the scoreboard was tough. They played with dignity and superb sportsmanship. THIS IS THE TYPE of community I want to work in, and this is the type of school every child deserves! LOVE IS ALIVE at St. George. We are FAMILY!
This Friday, we ask that you pray for our 8th graders as they participate in a retreat with Sister Liz Tiernan. This coming weekend they will find the outcome of the high school applications. This retreat with Sister Liz helps the students honor their time at St. George: their friendships, fond memories and growth while also contemplating the changes next year will bring when they go off to different high schools. It is a highly emotional time as they journey from child to young men and women.
Thank you to all families who attended the State of the School Meeting last Thursday. As you saw from our various speakers, our school is so strong because of the parents who take part in leadership roles, volunteer in events and support our various fundraising activities. I always tell the kids, it is YOUR SCHOOL! What do you what it to be like? Then do your part to make it that way. That certainly goes for parents, too. We all get out what we put into it, and I thank all the numerous families who continue to help our school thrive. It is your child who benefits!
For those who were absent, I am attaching the PowerPoint for your perusal. You will see on slide 15 that next year, the cost to education (CTE) each child at St. George is $10, 483. Every family is getting a discount, so we ask each family to help us bridge the gap between CTE and tuition cost. See the blue subsidy rates. That is where your fundraising is crucial in helping our school honor its budget.
