Principal's Weekly Newsletter

August 25 2022

Dear St. George Families,

Hurray, school starts on Tuesday! God continues to bless us at St. George! We are fully staffed. We welcome our new librarian, Ms. Barbara Morgan! Ms. Morgan is a certificated teacher with an MA in Administration and comes to us with a wealth of teaching experience. She is excited to meet all of our students and happily brings her own son, Colter to our 4th grade class.

Parent Volunteer Requirements by the Archdiocese of Seattle.

We have many volunteer opportunities for you to consider, but before parents can volunteer, all parents must be current in Safe Environment Protocols. In addition, a new requirement by the Archdiocese of Seattle is a signed School Volunteer Agreement that must be presented in advance of volunteer work. See the two attachments for more information.

Uniforms: Students in K-8 are required to be in full uniform starting August 30th. The Dennis Uniform link is https://www.dennisuniform.com/collections/xtg400 _pos=1&_psq=wa%20St%20george&_ss=e&_v=1.0

K-8 girls may NOT wear leggings or pants under their jumpers or skirts. They may wear blue black or white tights, long or short socks.

August 28th Kindergarten play date on the playground (11:30-12:30). Come meet your new classmates! Milk and donuts provided.

Morning Drop off and Pick UP protocols for K-8.

The 5th grade crossing guards and I do our best to get all the kids safely to and from school. It flows smoothly when parents abide by our traffic protocols. Please share this letter all those who help get your kids to and from school, especially grandparents! Impatient drivers and those thinking of only their convenience and not considering how they affects others are what stress us all out each day in traffic. Everyone has places to be, so please be patient.

Come to St. George two ways:

  1. Drive south on 13th Ave from S. Hudson or S. Shelton. Please do not come up 13th from the south behind me in the street. I know I am asking you to go a block or two out of your way, but it is in the best interest of children’s safety. Drop your kids anywhere along the front of the school and gym. Don’t jam up at the gym gate. They can walk 40 or 50 feet to the gate, and we have staff outside to supervise.

  2. Drive west only on S. Dawson, and pull all the way down you can towards 12th just like at the gas pump. Don’t expect to drop the kids at the cafeteria door. They can walk.

  3. Please do NOT come up S. Dawson from 12th. You are going against traffic and kids are running across traffic to get to the school door.

  4. USE THE CROSSWALKS on the corner of Dawson and 13th! DO NOT CROSS AT PEARL BY THE GYM! There is no crosswalk there. I have seen too many parents and grandparents crossing kids in the middle of the street between cars or directing their kids to run across the traffic because it is easier for them to pick them up. That is a life-threatening accident waiting to happen, and it teaches kids unsafe habits.

  5. Abide by the crossing guards. Wait for them to cross you.

  6. DO NOT park in yellow curb zones. Park around the neighborhood if you want to walk your children in. Yellow curbs are a drop and go where parents do NOT get out of the car. Consider parking at the church parking lot and walking your child.

  7. Kindergarten parents who are late must park and walk their child to the main office to check in, and then walk them to class across the street.

Students must be IN THE CLASSROOM at their desks by 8:00 to be considered on time. We will mark them tardy at 8:00.
