Dear St. George Families,

Fr. Scott is on vacation for the next two weeks. We ask that you keep him in your prayers as he rejuvenates. He has a big job overseeing 4 parishes, one elementary school and an Early Learning center!

Jog-a-thon: A HUGE thank you to Mary Turla, Theresa Turla-Cordero, Charisma Alex, Charlene Guanlao, and Elizabeth Turla for their organization and commitment!!!!! Another huge thank you to the 58 volunteers who scooped ice cream, directed joggers, sold uniforms, handed out t-shirts, and set up and cleaned up! Our St. George Dragons received over 550 donations from around the globe including Freedom, NH, Tamuning, Guam, Denver, CO, Grayslake, IL, Larvik, Norway and Nashville, TN just to name a few. We delivered 197 t-shirts last week! Thank you to all of our families for sending the texts, making the calls, and for all of the follow up that we know that you did!!! 154/189 families participated and raised $52,284.54!!!! Go Dragons!!!!!

All Volunteers! If you have volunteered for any events thus far this year, be sure to complete the attached Service Hour form and send it in to the main office to get credit for your service. We ask that you do this after each event.

Our 6th graders are off to environmental classes at Camp Seymour Monday-Wednesday next week. It looks like the Lord has blessed them with great weather and lovely opportunity to see the beauty of our natural world. Thank you to the amazing parents who could adjust their work schedules to chaperone!

Tuesday is the Feast of St. Francis, patron saint of animals. Fr. Armando will be doing a Blessing of the Pets on the school playground at 8:00 AM before the children go up to the classrooms. Families are invited to bring their dogs on leashes, cats in carriers and any other pet to the school playground from 7:45AM - 8:00. We will leave the side gate unlocked. Fr. Armando will lead prayer and a blessing for the precious gifts from God. We ask the parents brings the pets home directly after the service.

Friday October 7th is First Fridays’ Spirit Day with a noon dismissal for staff professional development. Students are welcome to wear blue or black jeans and any St. George t-shirt or sweatshirt or they can wear their regular uniform. Extended Care is available from noon-6:00 PM. All students attending Extended Care must bring their own sack lunch or PREORDER from the 8th Grade Pizza Lunch. No other hot lunch will be served.

The 8th grade will be hosting a Pizza Lunch on Friday Oct. 7th. Students can preorder/prepay for lunch and pick it up from 12:00-12:30 in the school hall and take it TO GO or eat it there. Parents must supervise their own children at the Pizza Lunch or Extended Care hours will be charged. All Extended Care students will be eating on the picnic tables on the courtyard so we don’t mix up those who are with their families. See the attached order form.

Friday we also begin our Faith Families program. Students in grades K-8 have been assigned to a mixed grade cohort that is led by a staff member and two 8th graders. Once a month or so, our Faith Families will gather and the 8th graders will lead their cohort in lessons centered on our faith, Catholic Social Teachings, and the lives of the saints. This is another way our students grow in answering the call to be missionary disciples of Jesus. We are ALL called to serve and love others.

Come to the Parents’ Club meetings next Thursday at 6:30 PM in the school hall. Planning is underway for our October 28th Halloween Carnival. Each classroom group of parents will run a booth/game at the carnival. Your Room Parents will be reaching out to you to volunteer for a shift. In addition, there are some general positions that need support. Check out the Sign-Up Genius for a slot just right for you. https://www.signupgenius.com/go/60B0F48ABAF2CA4FF2-stgeorge2

News from our 4 parishes.

I hope your school year is off to a great start! My name is Jennifer Ibach and I’m the new Pastoral Associate for the Southeast Seattle Parishes, as well as a St. George School parent. As you likely already know, St. George parish is one of four parishes (along with St. Peter, St. Paul, and St. Edward) in the Southeast Seattle “Cluster”. We share staff and ministries across the four parishes, including things like First Communion, First Reconciliation, and Confirmation Preparation as well as our shared Pastoral Council and Life, Justice, and Peace Commission. I would like to take a moment to invite all our families to join us for our weekend Masses and our many programs throughout the year. We are back in person for Masses but still offer a reserved section at all our parishes for those who want to sit with others wearing masks. We also continue to livestream our 8:30am Sunday Mass from St. Paul on our Facebook page. All are welcome.

One exciting thing this year is our new monthly Whole Family Faith Formation program for families with kids in grades K-6. The sessions will offered on Sundays at 9am starting on October 30 and are open to everyone in the South Seattle Cluster, rotating locations between St. George and St. Edward. The mornings are designed to help families learn and grow in their faith together in community. Please see the attached registration and schedule, which also includes the many family-friendly celebrations happening in our four parishes throughout the year. The sessions are highlighted in bold and will be followed by a youth-centered Family Mass (we are looking for youth lectors and ushers for these days so let us know if your child (ren) would like to serve). We know life with kids is very busy so you are welcome to join us as you are able but, we do ask you to please register so that we can plan well and keep you in the loop. Thank you and please reach out with any questions: jibach@stedwardparish.net

Enjoy the lovely fall weekend ahead. The warm, sunny days are waning!

In peace,

Monica Wingard, Principal
