Catholic Schools Week
Posted January 26 | from Mrs. Wingard
Catholic Schools Week begins this Sunday with our Family Mass at 10:30!
We invite all school families to kick off this weeklong celebration by worshipping together as one parish school community. We especially encourage
those of you who worship at different parishes or churches to come to St. George this Sunday and be apart of the national celebration. Students are
asked to proudly wear their school uniforms to Mass. The Children's Choir will be singing, students will be readers and greeters and the intermediate
classes will be hosting a bake sale. Let's gather together and thank the Lord for all the blessings he has bestowed on our St. George community.
Here is the schedule for the rest of the week's events. As always, students who do not wish to participate in the dress up activities are to wear
their regular uniforms.
- Monday is WACKY TACKY Day. Students can come to school in their craziest mixed up outfit ever. We celebrate our parents.
- Tuesday is Sports Day. Dress up in jerseys and t-shirts honoring your favorite sports teams.
- Wednesday is Ethnic Dress Day. Show us the beauty of your cultural heritage by dressing in
traditional clothes of your families' native country. Join us for our first annual Scripps School Spelling Bee at 10:15 am. Two students from each
grade 1-8 compete. The top speller from grades 6-8 will continue on to the next level at Seattle City Hall. We also celebrate our teachers with a
special lunch
- Thursday is the all time favorite Student Appreciation Day with the wearing of the PAJAMAS! Be sure to bring
your favorite pillow, stuffed animal or blanket for your class READ IN. This is also the day we will be watching a movie celebrating our magazine
sale success. K-4 will be watching Toy Story (G) and Grades 5-8 will be watching Akeelah and the Bee (PG). If you have any
objection to your child watching a movie, let us know and we can make other arrangements for them.
- Friday is Sue Byrd School Spirit Day. We honor the senior members of our parish with a breakfast after the
9:15 Mass. Students come dressed in blue and yellow. Parents are invited to attend our zany spirit assembly at 11:00 and watch the 8th graders try
to take down the teachers in a game of volleyball!

Thank you to our traffic dads!
Posted January 23 | from the office
A big THANK YOU to our traffic dads Mr. Serquinia and Mr. Juguilon who are outside every morning, rain or shine, at drop off. Their purpose
is to ensure the children's safety and your smooth flow for your exodus to work. Please do your part and FOLLOW our traffic FLOW. Drive SOUTHBOUND on
13th and WESTBOUND on Dawson. If you are going against traffic, you are interrupting flow and endangering students.

Emergency Weather Procedure
Posted January 13 | from Mrs. Wingard
In case of inclement weather, St George School will announce any delays or cancellations on the school website via
twitter by 6:30 a.m. This will
be our primary and only official vehicle for communication.
We will also communicate this information to KOMO,
KIRO and KING
media outlets. However, because of changes in their reporting policies, we cannot ensure whether, or when, announcements will appear. In cases of delay
where we have a 10:00am opening, there will be NO Morning Care Program. Students may arrive at 9:45 am, no earlier. King5.com has a section where you
can sign up for text alerts in the event our school is closed or delayed.
Ultimately, our highest priority is the safety of our students and families. Regardless of the official start status of the school, we always defer
to parents in the use of their own best judgment with regard to whether, and when, it is safe for their children to come to school. When weather
conditions dictate that families cannot accommodate the regular school schedule, there will of course not be any negative consequences for individuals
making alternate decisions in the interest of their children's safety.

No Parking Yellow Zones
From Mrs. Wingard • on January 12, 2012
Thanks for respecting our No Parking Yellow Zones. In the interest of safety and smooth traffic flow, we ask parents to drive southbound on 13th Ave.
during drop – off and pick up and westbound along Dawson Street on the south end of the school. Even though this pattern may force you to drive a
block or two out of your way, it helps protect everyone's child and gets you where you need to go more smoothly. Having traffic both ways with cars
parked everywhere is a recipe for trouble when transitioning 223 students. Children’s safety comes before convenience every time!

Let's Keep the Traffic Moving Safely!
from Mrs. Wingard • for School year 2011-2012
We are doing our best to keep traffic flowing in the morning and after school. We ask that your drive southbound on 13th when dropping off and
picking up your children. There is NO PARKING at any yellow curb. When picking up, if you don't see our child, please drive around the block so as to
allow parents whose children are ready to be able to pick them up and go. If your child needs assistance getting in and out of the car, we ask that
you park away from the school, outside the yellow zones, and walk to meet your child. We have also had reports of hurried drivers in the neighborhoods
who are speeding due to tardiness. We ask that you respect our local community and maintain safe driving in the neighborhoods at all times. Police
will be monitoring our area to ensure our safety.
