Volleyball Coaches Needed

Dear Parents,

We are in need of Volleyball coaches for the 8th grade boys team. If you have knowledge of the game of volleyball and would like to share this knowledge as a coach, please contact Diana Marsh at jamesemmi@msn.com or Michael Rittman, mrittman08@gmail.com. League games start on February 25, 2012.

Coaching counts as volunteer hours!

The CYO organization at St. George Parish School offers the opportunity for all 5th-8th graders in the parish to participate on a volleyball team that will compete with the same grades from other Seattle parishes.

Participation, fun and sportsmanship with an equal level of compassionate competition are the most important objectives of our CYO program. CYO sports offer every child an opportunity to grow in faith, increase self-confidence, interpersonal competence, a sense of caring for others and to better understand a sense of belonging to a team within a community. CYO Sports is in the business of teaching life values that aid boys and girls in their social, spiritual, physical and emotional development towards adulthood, not toward becoming a professional athlete.

Open Registration Period: January 3rd – January 25th. Games begin the weekend of February 25th. Any late registrations after the open registration period will be accepted on a space availability basis.

CYO Player Fees: $55 per player

Coaches Needed: Please consider offering your skills, experience, and leadership in service to coaching one of our teams. We plan to hold our coaches' meeting in early February. The goal of the coaches in CYO Sports is to assist every player on his or her team to utilize their God given talents to the best of their ability in the hope that each child will leave the season with a feeling of individual accomplishment and an increased sense of worth.

Dear St. George Sports Fans,

This 'blog' is very hard to write. This soccer season is the first in 47 years without our beloved Sue Byrd at the helm. I am sure she is looking down upon all of her St. George teams from her playground in Heaven cheering them on with her distinctive whistle and a few "Go Dragon's", as well as a few other of her 'special' comments! She is watching all of her kids have fun and doing their best as a team.

There is one game left for this season. Special thanks must go out to all of the coaches who carried on Sue's tradition of stewardship and caring:

The all team soccer banquet will be held this Saturday, October 29th, in the school hall. Mr. Rittman needs to know how many players will be attending to order food, please return your banquet flyer and payment to the school office as soon as possible.

Basketball practices have started for some of the teams with games starting on November 19. Schedules will be handed out when they are posted by the CYO office. Below is the practice schedule for the St. George teams at the St. George Miracle Gym:

• 4th Division Girls – 4:15 to 5:30, Tuesday & Thursday with Coach Virdell
• 4th/5th Division Boys – 5:30 to 7:00, Tuesday & Thursday with Coach Don Martinez
• 5th/6th Division Girls – 5:30 to 7:00, Monday & Wednesday with Coach Hector Martinez
• 6th/7th Division Boys – 7:00 to 8:30, Tuesdays & Thursday with Coach Layacan
• 7th Division Girls – 7:00 to 8:30, Tuesday & Thursday with Coach Harris

Remember to keep Sue, her husband Bob, her extended family and all of those in need in your prayers.
